I. Italy: La Vita Bella Italy is the most popular culinary destination, and it's not hard to see why. The Italians are warm and friendly and welcome an opportunity to share their culture and cuisine with you. The movie Under the Tuscan Sun brought a boom to the Italian culinary tourism industry by showcasing the Tuscan rolling hillsides, olive groves, hearty rustic cooking and bountiful wineries. And as a result thousands of tourists packed their bags and headed over to Italy, eager to experience the culinary bliss of Tuscany. Italy is comprised of 20 regions , one of them being Toscana (Tuscany). What Italians want tourists to know is that these regions bring unique flavors to the table. And when you travel to a region from Italy, stay true to that region's cuisine. Eat the food from the region and drink the wine from the region and you're sure to have a fabulous culinary experience. What Americans think of as Italian food is either Italian-American food as well as foods of the Sicily and Emilia Romagna regions of Italy. Sicilian cuisine has the fresh tomato sauces that we've grown to love, red wines, and pasta. Emilia Romagna has the famous pasta Bolognese sauce, and lasagna. It is also the home of Parmigiano Regiano, the balsamic vinegars of Modena , and proscuitto.
