Boston University’s programs in Food and Wine and graduate program in Gastronomy will be running a tour to one of the most gorgeous regions of France, Burgundy. This program will begin in Beaune, France on Sunday, June 22 and will end in Paris on Saturday, June 28, 2008. The tour will be led by Clive Coates, Master of Wine and world-renowned author, teacher and most noted expert on the wines of Burgundy as well as visiting lecturer at Boston University’s Bishop Wine and Food Seminars.
The schedule will be as follows:
- Travelers will arrive in Beaune, France by train from Paris on Sunday, June 22. Our hotel in Beaune, Burgundy is the Mercure. After checking in to your room, we will have lunch. After lunch you may walk around Beaune leisurely or stay at the pool at the hotel or just relax. In late afternoon Mr. Coates will give an introductory lecture about the wines of the Regions of Burgundy, the terroir, and all that you will be seeing on each of the following days. Dinner will follow with a special discussion of the meal and the wines served.
- Each day, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, through Friday, June 27, Clive will accompany you on a tour through the vineyards and beautiful towns of one of the most glorious regions of France from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. We will be stopping for lunch each day and sampling and pairing wines with the foods of the localities and visiting markets along the way. The wines at lunches and dinners will be chosen by Clive and discussed along with the pairings with our meals. When you return to the hotel you can relax or swim in the Mercure’s pool. Or wander around Beaune.
- You will be visiting the wine communes such as Beune, Volnay, Pommard, Chorey, Savigny-les-Beaune, Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, and white wine communes, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanee, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin and others.
- A guided tour of Beaune will take place on one of the afternoons after we return from the vineyards.
- Friday night we will celebrate our week with a very special farewell to Burgundy dinner.
- On Saturday morning, June 28, we will take the train back to Paris. You may remain in Paris or travel elsewhere.
Six breakfasts, 7 lunches and 4 dinners are included in the cost of this trip as well as all fees, your hotel, the Mercure in Beaune, the bus tours of Burgundy, and the train to and from Paris. The cost of the Hotel Mercure is for a shared double room. If you wish a single room at the Hotel Mercure, the cost is an additional $576. Your airfare is not included. The cost of the trip described, not including airfare or a single room is $3,400.
We plan to limit the enrollments for this trip so it is advisable that you sign up soon. I do hope that you will be able to join us. This plans to be a stupendous tour with the most knowledgeable person in the world teaching you about Burgundy and its wines. This is a great learning experience for everyone. Do feel free to bring along significant others and friends. Regard this as true experiential Culture and Cuisine tour.
I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. I suggest that if you purchase your airline ticket, that you also purchase cancellation insurance. Should we have to cancel this trip, you will be fully refunded. If you should cancel, there will be a $100 non-refundable administration fee.
